What are we watching this weekend?

Forgot to post this yesterday. I'm somehow hoping to fit in 3-Iron, Turtles Can Fly, and Look at Me and get all my Reverse Shot articles done. Somehow I'm not particularly excited about any of these films, even though I've heard mostly good things. If I hadn't already seen Kingdom of Heaven, I'd probably be in the midst of its thudding pomposity rather than posting right now. Trust me, it's a real "treat."

I think the best bet this weekend would be a second viewing of THE HOLY GIRL, as my initial was slightly compromised by watching it directly after Jia Zhangke's THE WORLD at a NYFF double feature last fall. THE HOLY GIRL sort of just lightly swims in my memory as images and sounds and moods but nothing I can recall is holding it together in any coherent way. Therefore, I need to see it again to untangle it from my head and actually be able to discuss it in any intelligent manner. Otherwise, maybe I'll FINALLY catch up with Adolf Goes a Romping or the Jimmy Fallon Red Sox Movie...and if I see KUNG FU HUSTLE at all it's gonna be on the big screen. I gotta get my ass in gear. The only definite in THE RED SHOES at Walter Reade Theater as part of the Powell retrospective on Sunday.
Might do an afternoon on-the-couch screening of MANHATTAN MURDER MYSTERY...if I have the time. Who am I kidding, I'll make time.

Harold Lloyd 'The Freshman'
First 20 minutes of 'True Grit'
First half hour of 'Garfield.' Amazingly, this movie is much worse than I'd expected, and so this "irony" viewing went terribly awry. My girlfriend kept getting upset every time Garfield lewdly danced, which was more than five times in the first act. The casting of Nermal and Odie left a lot to be desired.
